Claire is a committed, positive and pragmatic clinician who has over 20 years experience as an NHS senior physiotherapist specialising in stroke and neurological rehabilitation of adults suffering life changing events. During her career she has set up stroke rehabilitation wards in three different hospitals, where she has led dynamic and enthusiastic therapy teams. She is adaptable and flexible, as demonstrated by her managing caseloads of Covid-recovering patients across multiple wards during the height of the pandemic.
Claire has extensive experience working with specialist inter-disciplinary teams, co-ordinating complex discharge plans enabling transfer of care from hospital to community, planning long-term care needs, and managing outreach or community therapy transition. Claire is passionate about advocating for clients by providing education and signposting to support reintegration into the community and building new lives after stroke.
Claire has worked as a physiotherapist within the clinical fields of acute and rehabilitation phases of stroke care, neurological paediatrics, community, orthopaedic rehabilitation, elderly care and medical rehabilitation. Claire has extensive experience of teaching, training, mentoring and supervising both qualified and support staff, and physiotherapy students.
Claire has set up and implemented research projects in collaboration with the Down to Earth Project social enterprise in Swansea and the Stroke Association, focusing on outdoor rehabilitation approaches. Centred around an innovative self-management course for life after stroke survivors, this research was nominated for a Swansea University Bay Health Board award. Claire has further developed her interest in the benefits of outdoor based rehabilitation with a recent trial of VR headsets to share this experience with profoundly disabled clients.
